You’ve completed an 8-week Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC).
You’ve steadied your attention, found a little more space around stress, and seen how mindfulness helps you.

So what’s the natural next step?

Compassion training.

If mindfulness is the pause, compassion is how you respond in that pause.
Our Compassion Based Living Course (CBLC) is the natural progression - turning clarity into warm, sustainable action for yourself and others.

Why continue - and why compassion?
  • Softening the Self-Critic. Awareness without self-kindness can inadvertently become cold or analytical. The Compassion Based Living Course specifically trains the heart to respond to distress, failure, and self-judgement with warmth rather than criticism.

  • Turning States into Lasting Traits. Neuroscience confirms that regular, structured immersion is what consolidates new neural pathways. Continuing into intermediate-level training helps shift calm from a temporary meditative state into an enduring character trait you rely on during stressful moments. Stopping mindfulness practise after eight weeks is like learning basic chords and never picking up the guitar again.

  • Preventing ‘Practice Drift’. Practising alone at home can easily slip into passive daydreaming or subtle avoidance. Ongoing training with an experienced mindfulness and compassion teacher provides the structured inquiry needed to work through blind spots, navigate difficult emotional material safely, and keep practice vital.
  • Keep the gains under pressure. Research led by Amishi Jha at the University of Miami shows a dose–response effect: people who keep practising, maintain their attention and mood more robustly than those who don’t.
  • Move from seeing to caring action. Compassion – ‘a sensitivity to suffering with a commitment to alleviate it’ (Paul Gilbert) - is learnable. It transforms insight into wise choices, even when life is messy.
  • Practise safely and skilfully. As awareness deepens, strong emotions or old patterns can surface. Compassion practices and trauma sensitive guidance help you pace, regulate and integrate.
  • The Sustaining Strength of Community. As Thich Nhat Hanh taught, the Sangha sustains us. Sharing a dedicated practice space with fellow MBLC graduates dissolves the illusion that we are alone in our struggles. Practising together normalises our shared humanity and reinforces your commitment to everyday wellbeing.

What you will learn in the CBLC

The Compassion Based Living Course builds directly on to your MBLC toolkit, introducing experiential practices grounded in evolutionary psychology and neuroscience:
  • Understanding Our Evolutionary Brain: How our threat, drive, and soothe systems interact - and how to intentionally activate soothing.
  • The Compassionate Inner Self: Cultivating an internal voice of unconditional wisdom, strength, and warmth. Meet the inner critic and rumination with wisdom and care.
  • Working with Difficult Emotions: Developing the capacity to hold grief, anxiety, and frustration with gentle presence rather than resistance.
  • Compassion in Action: Extending heartfelt kindness and presence into your relationships, communication, and daily environment.
  • Compassion for others without burnout: Deepening inner warmth with steadiness and boundaries.

You’ll get guided practices, brief talks, supportive inquiry, and recordings to support realistic home practice.

Benefits you can expect

A strong research evidence base and long teaching experience show compassion training helps you to thrive in life:
  • Reduce self criticism and anxiety; increase self kindness and balance (Neff & Germer).
  • Build resilience - recovering more quickly after setbacks and stress.
  • Improve relationships through clearer boundaries, empathy and warmth.
  • Make mindfulness more usable in real life with less struggle, more ease and consistency.

Who is the CBLC for and how does it run?
  • Those who have completed an 8-week MBLC (or  equivalent).
  • Especially helpful if this sounds like you: “I know the mindful thing to do, but in real life I still turn on myself or burn out trying to do too much, including helping others.”
  • 18 weekly online sessions starting in September with a break for Christmas and New Year.
Say Yes - Reserve your place now

Mindfulness gave you a steadier lens of awareness. Compassion gives you the warmth and courage to act wisely with what you see.
